Information Technology Management

The HOSPA Education and Training Programme (ETP) provides the entry route to Associate Membership of HOSPA. This route through the ETP – Information Technology Management - aims to provide a career path for IT Managers in the hospitality industry via the Association.

'In a nutshell'

The course provides students with the knowledge necessary to manage hospitality IT divisions.


Course Overview
  • This innovative programme comprises three Stages studied in association with the Open University, HFTP and ILX
  • It is a flexible learning programme, thereby ensuring that students can fit their learning around their busy working days
  • The course is assessed by a combination of assignments, an examination, online assessments and a reflective Learning Log
  • Each Stage is priced individually payable at the beginning of each Stage plus Membership of HOSPA at £190 (£140 + £50 joining fees)
  • Students are provided with learning materials and a range of other resources
  • Access to online resources from the OU during Stage 1 and access to the HOSPA online classroom during Stage 1 and 2
  • Students need to be numerate and literate in the English language and preferably work in the IT department of a hospitality organisation
  • Some qualifications held by candidates may provide exemptions form one or more Stages of the programme

What will I study

Stage 1 - Microsoft Server technologies (OU TM128)

  • Block 1: Networking Fundamentals
  • Block 2: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Configuration
  • Block 3: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration

Stage 2 - Certified Hospitality Technology Professionals (HFTP)

  • Completion of self study course consisting of a 2-volume study guide and additional reading resources. Assessment is comprised of a 250 – question multiple-choice exam (75% pass mark)

Stage 3 - Strategic Management of IT

  • PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitoner

The ETPITM is for aspiring IT Management professionals who:

  • Wish to gain the skills and knowledge required to manage hospitality IT divisions of the future
  • Wish to gain a more detailed understanding of the IT function of a hospitality organisation
  • Wish to gain an increased level of competence and recognition of their professionals status
