HOSPA launches #SleepOverToHelpTurnover as it looks to maintain the momentum of the industry’s recovery

The #EatOutToHelpOut scheme provided a much-needed flurry of trade for the hospitality industry as we began the process of reopening.

But, whilst a huge success, the COVID-19 pandemic saw hotels and other hospitality businesses being amongst the first to close, and the longest to stay shut; conditions which have had, and continue to have, a profound impact on our sector.

The latest coronavirus preventative measures, which sees restaurants and bars closing at 10pm, the rule of 6, and weddings limited to 15 guests is taking further toll on an industry already at breaking point.

In the wake of reopening, recovery had only just begun – but the recent rule changes are causing additional strain. To help counteract them and to sustain recovery, HOSPA, supported by our members and partners, has launched the #SleepOverToHelpTurnover scheme, which is aimed at boosting hotels and their ancillary support businesses, as we look to maintain the industry’s rebuilding process.

The scheme’s overriding purpose is to encourage the public to continue engaging with hotels beyond the summer months and into autumn and winter – helping to prolong the recovery boost provided by #EatOutToHelpOut and to offset the latest measures.

Looked at as a two-way initiative, #SleepOverToHelpTurnover seeks to encourage hoteliers to incentivise potential guests by offering discounts or extras, such as supplementary meals, additional nights, bottles of wine, free WiFi upgrades, complimentary parking, half-price cocktails and more to reward those who engage with the scheme and display their support for the hospitality industry.

Q. What is the #SleepoverToHelpTurnover campaign?
A. The campaign is designed to help hotels encourage guests to stay at their property by adding 'something extra' to show their appreciation for their business in these challenging COVID times.

Q. What could 'something extra' be?
A. It can be as simple or as generous as you want it to be. For example, you may like to offer free carparking, or reduced price cocktails, a bowl of fruit in the room, or a bottle of wine with dinner.

Q How much does it cost to join the #Sleepover campaign?
A. There is no cost to join the campaign.

Samantha Williams, UK Market Owner at Profitroom, a leading SaaS supplier to the hospitality industry that focuses on enhancing hotel revenues, said:
“In recent weeks we’ve seen signs that business on the books in October has more than surpassed last year with forecasts suggesting it will be another record month for luxurious leisure hotels. However, business on the books for November is behind as consumer confidence is at an all-time low. This scheme has come just in time as we are seeing booking windows have reduced from around 30 days in recent months down to just seven days in the past two weeks for stays in the domestic market.  Many hotels are really struggling – with the latest rules and Government legislation and frequency of changes adding further burdens and challenges. By supporting #SleepOverToHelpTurnover, members of the public will help hotels carry on as they move into a traditionally quieter period, further aiding them in their recovery and providing a vital boost to the economy.”
